My pallet project: Pinterest knock off

by La-Dee-Da Crafter on September 4, 2011 · 21 comments

One day, I looked on the side of my house

and what did my wondering eyes did I see,

This pallet:

It was about 5 years old and beat up.

But I saw potential and I started thinking how I could transform it into a great decorative piece in my home.

I love to display my seasonal dishes but in my new home I did not have a place for my hutch that I had in my kitchen before. Now, it is in my craft room. So, my dishes were in a cabinet with no hope of seeing the light of day.

Sad…..until I found this pallet.

Hope was restored!

I had seen this pallet shelving on Pinterest and loved it.

Is there such a thing as Pinterest knock offs?

If so, that is what I did.

I took my pallet and asked Mr. La-Dee-Da to beat out some parts of it leaving me with 2 shelves.

But I needed it to look good in my house and the old wood look was not working.

I went to Home Depot and bought wood stain.

I did not buy Red Oak but something similar.

I paid almost $5 for it.

I then stained my pallet.

I was so happy with it and soon Mr. La-Dee-Da was busy hanging it.

Look how handy he is!!!

After it was hung, I quickly pulled out my fall dishes and gave them a HOME!!!!

I have a thing for pumpkins when fall rolls around.

My pumpkin dishes and tea pot were all birthday gifts a few years back.

That is what happens when you have a fall birthday. You get fall gifts but I love them all.

I will never complain about getting them.

I love my pallet shelves and I can’t wait to decorate them for all seasons with my seasonal dishes.

I can also put picture frames on there, books….so many possibilities.

While we are in the dining room, I want to show you the table runner I made.

Sticking with my love of pumpkins, I used an old strip of burlap and added pumpkin fabric that I ruffled and used hot glue.

Easy and so simple.

I have more fall projects to show you but I wanted to give you a sneak peek.

I have my lantle(not a mantle, not a shelf, it is a ledge SO it’s a my Lantle) and front porch to show you soon.

But for now, I couldn’t wait to show you my pallet upcycle.

This is such a great idea. I love plate racks and I love that you have recycled something.

While driving in the country last weekend, (and ironically after telling my husband to keep his eye out for some) we drove by a nursery with a tonnes of pallettes out in front with a “Free Pallettes” sign on it, we picked up only 3 (which at the time I thought was too many). We need them for storing stuff beside our garage off the dirt, but since last week, I have thought of 4 great craft projects for them! I may have to go back to pick up a bunch more!

This looks amazing – I love the pallet as a wall hanging – when I look on the side of my house all I find is grass :) it will be so fun to decorate for holidays – birthdays could be fun with it too

I pinned the same project and found a pallet but it has been sitting in the garage for weeks. Im scared to hang it because it’s so heavy – how did you guys hang yours?

This turned out so cute. I like that you painted it and gave it a more upscale look. This blog had a Pineterest Copying party in August. I don’t know if you has it regularly. http://www.bowerpowerblog.com/

Very pretty – A different twist on a shelf; a lot more character!

Very cleverly made and creative. What concerns me is where the pallets came from and what they were previously used for.
