Back to School projects

by La-Dee-Da Crafter on July 22, 2011 · 20 comments

Yes, I said it and you read it right.

Back to school…..where did summer go?

Well, for most people it is still going and school will be starting the next couple of weeks but not here in AZ.

So, here are a few project ideas for a special back to school dinner.

You will need a centerpiece which could also be a cute teacher gift, if you want to butter those teachers up early in the school year.

Not a bad idea.

Here is what you need to make it:

- Dollar store candle holder/vase thing

- 2 boxes of pencils from dollar tree

- 4 sheets of notebook paper

- flowers from the dollar tree

- glue gun

- ribbon

- Floral styrofoam(Dollar store)

Extras:

-Flash cards ($1 clearance at Target)

- mini ruler( found at Michael’s)

Step 1: I hot glued on my pencils. I put erasers up so you can see them. I mean, what is a pencil without an eraser?

Step 2: Add in your styrofoam and stick in your flowers. I used 2 bouquets from the Dollar Tree. I had them laying around.

Step 3: Then, I put in my notebook paper. Just bundle it and put in all sides.

Step 4: Accessorize you centerpiece. I wanted mine to have flash cards sticking up so I hot glued them to the flowers. I added a cute ribbon and a wood apple piece to the center of the ribbon.

There you have it. Just play with it and add in your own creativity.

Total spent to make this centerpiece

$7

That is so La-Dee-Da thrifty!

I put my centerpiece on a dry erase board I had and I added some wood blocks with letters on them. Looks like school. For placecards, I used name tags that go on desks in most elementary schools.

I love Dr. Seuss and his books are very school friendly so the cups for my dinner had to be Dr. Seuss cups I found in the $1 Clearance aisle at Target. I love how colorful they are too!!!

I also made a banner. What is a party without a banner? I make them for everything.

I took school stickers that teachers would buy. I found them on $ clearance aisle at Target.

I cut them out and hole punched them and I had a banner.

Then, we had each kid think of something they are hopeful for this new school year. Then we popped the party popper. It is kind of like making a wish before you blow out the candles on a birthday cake.

We ate pizza and played around with this chalkboard thought bubble.

We asked them, What do you think about this new school year?

Answers:

Summer should be all year round- 6th grader

School is school people- 2nd grader

Maybe your kids will have better answers, haha

The first day of school always reminds of new beginnings, a fresh start and new experiences. I love the feel of fresh school supplies and the smell of crayons.

Oh, the places our kids can go. The sky is the limit. encourage your kids to shine and follow their dreams. If they dream it, they can do it.

Dr. Seuss says it best, with text taken from his book

Oh, the Places you will go

You’ll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You’ll get mixed up

with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with
care and great tact
and remember that Life’s
a Great Balancing
Act.
Just never foget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your
right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will,
indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU’LL MOVE
MOUNTAINS!

So…
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai
Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
You’re off the Great Places!
Today is your
day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!

Happy 2011-2012 School year to you and yours!!!

So Dr. Seuss, So school fun and So La-Dee-Da!!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, it’s hard to find crafters from Arizona where I am! I lived in Tucson for 4 years while I went to U of A, and I actually loooooooved Tucson. It took a while to get used to, but I definitely fell in love hard! (I kinda do not like Phoenix though, where I grew up)… I have a pretty old post where I shared a lot of my Tucson pictures if you wanna take a look… http://rwkrafts.blogspot.com/2011/04/travel-world-wednesday-tucson-az.html

I’m a new follower too! I love this back to school project you made… isn’t the dollar spot at Target pure perfection?!!

What a cute idea! I’ve been thinking about what to do for back-to-school and this will be perfect! I have one child going back this coming week. He is starting at a new charter school and class resumes this week. My other child starts back later in August.

Love it! How creative and thrifty! My son starts preschool at the end of the month so this would be perfect. Although I may be crying through the whole dinner… :)
