Stars and Stripes

by La-Dee-Da Crafter on June 14, 2011 · 18 comments

With the 4th of July coming next month, I wanted to make my version of the American flag. After seeing so many variations made from wood, I finally started mine. This flag includes ruffles because well, I love them.
My American motto in a country with, an up and down economy, with soldiers fighting for our freedoms and problems here in our cities and states, my La-Dee-Da motto is, “just keep ruffling.” Or a common phrase is “just roll with the punches” and keep living your American dream.
So, this flag has ruffles, wood stars and stripes. I bought a yard of ruffles from
http://www.rufflefabric.com/

Aren't those ruffles lovely?

First, I took an old ugly wood picture that was free and spray painted it a red, burgundy color.
Before I sprayed it:

Nice but not for my house

After painting it I drew my lines and painted the stripes white. I used spray adhesive and put on my ruffles. I went to my craft stash and pulled out some wood stars and I admit I thought about this for a while. Sure I could paint them white. I could add a button or ribbon. But then it occured to me, why not use my wood burning tool and write a very patriotic phrase from Our national anthem.
By the way, I love my wood burning tool.
Then, I had my very own patriotic version of the American flag, La-Dee-Da style.

“….And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air. Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there….”

So Patriotic, So red, white and blue and SO La-Dee-Da!!!

Very cute! We are seasonal campers and my site is done in all stars and stripes. My kids love it because they are ancestors of Francis Scott Key.

Stumbled your post for you. Mine is Do you use Freecycle?
